Diamonds

Diamonds are one of the most precious gems (and the hardest too) found in the world.
20% of diamonds that are mined are used for jewelry, while the remaining 80% are used in the industry that includes cutting tools, polishing hard metal, phonograph and videodisc needles, and bearings for laboratory instruments.
The largest diamond found is the Cullinan diamond, which weighed 3,106 carats and was mined in the South Africa in 1905. It was cut into 9 large stones and almost 100 small ones.
Certified diamonds are evaluated, measured and scrutinized by trained eyes. A completed certificate includes an analysis of the diamond’s dimensions, quality, clarity, color, polish and symmetry.
