Get some scars
A disaster like no other
Monday, September 28, 2009
This is a disaster like no other.
There is water everywhere.
Cities submerged in flood.
People climbing up to their roofs and hanging on for their lives.
Families lost their homes.
Some lost their loved ones.
I want to help out these victims, but I’m stuck up at home. My parents won’t allow me to go out because it’s dangerous and I don’t have a reason to leave home because classes are suspended. I volunteered as one of the heads for the ad committee our Grand Archon formed for the flood victims but I won’t be able to attend the meeting later because as I said, my parent’s won’t let me.
I don’t understand why they couldn’t see the goodness in what I’m trying to do. This is not one of those palusots they think I often do just to get out of the house. THIS IS URGENT. People are stranded inside their homes, atop their roofs or at the evacuation centers without food, water nor clothes. I want to help these people. I may not have the money to donate for them, but at least I have the initiative to do something for them.
I never even thought that people close to my heart would be affected by the calamity brought about by Ondoy. One sister of mine lost their home in the flood; the other is trapped inside their home without food. Another friend of mine lives in Malabon and jokingly told me that soon his sport wouldn’t be swimming anymore but would be Scuba diving since their barangay is fully submerged in water.
The water in Philcoa was knee-deep the other day. Mud went inside our boarding house. I wasn’t even there to help them out because I was stuck in UP because there were no Jeepnies nor cabs to take me home.
The electricity and water was cut off in Laguna too. The flood was already waist-deep and thank God our house was in the elevated part of the village.
