I’m sports fanatic but I am not really a fan of basketball. I don’t know what’s fun and interesting in blocking and bumping with each other’s sweaty body. I am not an avid fan of the NBA or the PBA. You won’t get anything from me if you ask me about the current standing of the teams during the play-offs.
At 5’7 ½, people tell me that I should consider playing volleyball or basketball. I play volleyball but you can’t force me to play basketball.
When I entered the University and became friends with UAAP fanatics, I finally had the chance to watch a live basketball game. There came I time that I watched almost all of the games during the season. I became one of those people who cheer for their teams. Well, there’s not really much to cheer for our school’s basketball team. We never get to the final four nor win many games. I lost my interest again and watched the games on the television when I have the time.
The last time our school became champion in basketball was during Benjie Paras’ college years — and that’s more than a decade ago. I’m wishing that someday, our team will be the one to take home the trophy and have it displayed among the shelf of the few (yet something to be proud of) basketball trophies the school has won.I hope that day comes before I graduate.
